TENNIS: QUARTERFINALS AT WTA 1000 IN TORONTO!

There has been a lot of bad weather in Montreal over the past two days. That is not the case in Toronto where the ladies are playing the WTA 1000 Masters. We are at the quarter final stage and Coco Gauff and Ons Jabeur are already out. We have prepared predictions for two of the quarter finals.

EMMA NAVARRO VS TAYLOR TOWNSEND

Emma Navarro's year on the WTA tour has been excellent. The 23 year old is ranked at the 15th position in the world. After Wimbledon (lost to Jasmina Paolini in the QF) she played the Olympics and lost to Qinwen Sheng in the round of 16. Sheng went on to win the gold medal. Emma is Seeded at the 8th spot in Toronto. In the round of 32 she got the better of Magda Linette in straight sets (6-2, 6-4) and in the round of 16 Navarro defeated Marta Kostyuk in two sets (7-5, 7-5). Taylor Townsend from the States is a qualifier at the event. She was up 6-3, 3-1 to Yastremska in The round of 64 when her opponent retired. I the round of 32 Townsend defeated Stakusic in two sets (6-2, 6-0). In the round of 16 Taylor won against Jelena Ostapenko in straight sets (6-2, 6-1). Townsend a 28 year old left-hander, ranked 71 in the world, has had a great week so far.

AMANDA ANISIMOVA VS ARYNA SABALENKA

Amanda Anisimova had her breakthrough a couple of years ago at the French Open but things have staled bit due to causes outside the tennis court mostly. She is trying hard to get back to the level she was at. Her current ranking is at 132 and she has won 12 out of the 21 matches she has played on the WTA tour in 2024. The 22 year old got the better of Dolehide in two sets (6-1, 6-4) and in the second round she defeated Kasatkina (6-3, 6-4). In the round of 16 Amanda was up one set to none when Kalinskya retired. The match versus Sabalenka will be a true test for Amanda. Aryna Sabalenka is seeded at the 2nd spot at the event. In the Round of 32 Aryna defeated Yuan from China (6-2, 6-2). In the round of 16 she got the better of Boulter (6-3, 6-3). Sabalenka did not play at the Olympics. She lost the semi final in three sets to Maria Bouskova the past week in Washington.
