Rublev will square off with Davidovich Fokina in the round of 16 at the ATP 500 Barcelona Open. Alejandro is playing his best tennis in years, which he will need against Andrey. This is the 6th time they face each other on the tour. Rublev has won every match!

RUBLEV IS UP 5-0 IN THE HEAD TO HEAD WITH FOKINA

So this has been a one-sided matchup since they first played each other at the French Open back in 2020. Rublev won the round of 64 match at Roland Garros in four sets. They did not square off again until the round of 16 at Dubai in 2023, where Andrey won in a close three-setter. Alejandro and Rublev faced off a couple of months later at the ATP 1000 Rome Masters (round of 32). This time the Russian won it in straight sets.

TWO MATCHES BETWEEN THEM ON THE ATP TOUR IN 2024

These two played each other twice last season. First at the ATP 1000 Madrid Masters (round of 32, again). Rublev won in two sets after a long and grueling first set that ended 7-6 (10). The prior match between them was in Beijing (round of 16) in October of 2024. Andrey won, yet again, in straight sets. Three of the matches have been on clay and two of them on hard court.

RUBLEV DOMINATED JESPER DE JONG IN THE FIRST ROUND

Rublev is seeded at the 4th spot at the ATP 500 Barcelona Open. The 27-year-old faced the Dutchman De Jong in the round of 32 and won the match, 6-1, 6-3. Rublev pretty much out-served his opponent. His return was working well too. Andrey had six breakpoints and took advantage of five. De Jong had a rough day as far as his serve goes. Rublev won 42% of the points on his second serve and 48% on the first serve. Andrey is currently at the 8th spot in the world. He has a match record of eleven wins and eight lost matches in the 2025 season. Rublev won the title at the ATP 500 Doha.

DAVIDOVICH FOKINA TOOK OUT WAWRINKA IN BARCELONA

Alejandro started out his campaign at the ATP 500 Barcelona Open by beating the 40-year-old Wawrinka in straight sets. It was, as expected, a one-sided affair from start to finish. It was over after one hour and eleven minutes. The 26-year-old Spaniard had 14 winners to Stan the Man’s four. The Swiss veteran and three-time Grand Slam Champion made 30 unforced errors. Davidovich Fokina had 22. He took advantage of five out of his seven breakpoints.

DAVIDOVICH FOKINA HAS BEEN ON FIRE ON THE ATP TOUR

Alejandro had a great week at the ATP 1000 Rolex Masters in Monte Carlo last week with a semi berth. He has reached two finals on the ATP tour this season. He lost them both at the ATP 250 Delray Beach and the ATP 500 in Acapulco. The Málaga-born Fokina has won 19 matches and lost nine this year. Alejandro only won 18 (lost 22) in the 2024 season. That is an illustration of how good he has been playing on the ATP tour in 2025.

DAVIDOVICH FOKINA IS CLIMBING UP THE ATP RANKINGS

Alejandro is ranked at the 30th spot in the world. He was at the 68th position in the second week of January, 2025. His best ever was at number 21 in August of 2023. So Davidovich Fokina is definitely feeling good about what he can do on the court going into this, so far, one-sided matchup. The only question for Alejandro heading into the 6th encounter with Rublev is if he can beat the Russian for the first time ever on the ATP tour.
