Alcaraz has won 14 straight games at the ATP 500 Barcelona Open. Carlos could win his third title in Barcelona if he defeats Holger Rune in the final. This is the second final of the season for Holger. If Rune beats Alcaraz he will win the first title of the season.
This will be the fourth match ever between these two players on the ATP tour. Alcaraz has won two of the encounters and Rune one. They first faced each other at the next gen finals in 2021. Carlos won. Rune got the better of Alcaraz at the ATP 1000 Paris Masters in 2022. The 21 year old from Denmark won in two sets. The previous match between them was at Wimbledon in 2023. Alcaraz won in three straight sets. This is the first match that they square off on clay.
It took Carlitos one hour and 15 minutes to beat Fils. He won the match 6-2, 6-4 and was targeting Fils backhand throughout the duration of the match. To some extent Alcaraz outshined Fils tactically. The conditions were windy and Carlos made fewer mistakes than his opponent in the match. The 21 year old Spaniard had 13 unforced errors to 38 for the Frenchman. Alcaraz had eleven winners and Fils 13. Carlos had five breakpoints and converted three out of them. He faced one breakpoint on his own serve and was able to save it.
Holger reached his second final of the year by beating Khachanov in two sets, 6-3, 6-2. It took the Gentofte native one hour and seven minutes to close the deal. Rune’s second serve was working well and he won 85% of the points on it. Holger did not concede a single breakpoint in the match. He had 20 winners to five for Khachanov and made 13 unforced errors. Khachanov had 17. Rune won 68% of the points in the match. A domination from the start to the end.
Carlitos is on an eight straight matches win streak on the ATP tour. He won the title at the Barcelona Open in 2022 and 23. Alcaraz did not play at the event last season. He has 14 straight wins at the event. Alcaraz got the better of Quinn in the first round. Djere in the second and De Minaur in the QF. Carlos has not lost a set yet at the ATP 500 Barcelona Open.
Rune took care of Ramos Vinolas to start his campaign in Barcelona. He defeated Baez in the second round. Holger had a big win in the QF versus Ruud. Rune was down 1-6 in the head to head before the win. The current world number 14 has not lost a set this week. No matter what happens in the final, Rune will be back in the top ten in the world. Holger retired from his first match in Monte Carlo last week due to food poisoning.
Carlos has won two titles this season. The ATP 1000 Rolex Masters last week where he defeated Davidovich Fokina in the final. Alcaraz also won the ATP 500 in Rotterdam. He took out De Minaur in the final. The biggest achievement for Rune on the ATP tour in 2025 is the final berth at the ATP 1000 Indian Wells Masters. He lost the final to Draper. Rune’s match record for the year on the ATP tour is 15-9. It’s 24-4 for Alcaraz.
