The ATP 500 Barcelona Open has been nice so far to the lucky loser from England, Jacob Fearnley. He did not make it through the qualifications but got into the main draw as a lucky loser. The Briton has his work cut out for him when he squares off with Alex De Minaur in the last match of the day at the Barcelona Open.

FEARNLEY TOOK OUT CARBALLES BAENA IN ROUND ONE

Feanley lost to Diego Galan in the qualifications but with some luck he got into the main draw. Jacob faced Carballes Baena in the round of 32 and he won the match, 6-1, 7-5. Fearnley served better throughout the match than his opponent did. Jacob saved seven out of the nine breakpoints he faced in the match. Feanley took advantage of ten out of six of the 16 breakpoints he had in his serve. The Briton won 56% of the points in the match. Jacon Fearnley and Alex De Minaur have never faced each other on the ATP tour before.

JACOB FEARNLEY SO FAR IN THE 2025 SEASON

The 23 year old from Worcester is ranked at the 74th spot in the world right now. He spent a couple of years at the Texas Christian University where he won the National championship. Fearnley has won five and lost four matches on the main tour in 2025. He is spending some time on the challenger tour too. Jacob went out in the third round at the Australian Open to Zverev. He lost straight away to Fonseca at Indian Wells. He was able to qualify for the ATP 1000 Miami Masters and lost in the round of 64. The ATP 500 Barcelona Open is only his 4th entry on the main tour this season.

ALEX DE MINAUR BETTER THAN EVER ON THE SURFACE CLAY

The 26 year old Sydney native used to hate playing on clay. Nowadays he is loving it. De Minaur has the result to back it up. Alex reached the semifinal last week at the ATP 1000 Rolex Masters in Monte Carlo. De Minaur lost to Musetti. Alex has won 21 matches and only lost seven so far in the 2025 season. De Minaur reached the QF at the Australian Open, lost the final in Rotterdam to Alcaraz and reached the QF in Doha. He went out straight away in Dubai and reached the round of 16 at Indian Wells. Just as he did at the ATP 1000 Miami Masters.

DE MINAUR TOOK OUT ETCHEVERRY IN THE FIRST ROUND

It took Alex De Minaur one hour and 25 minutes to beat Etcheverry, 6-4, 6-4, in the opening round at the ATP 500 Barcelona Open. De Minaur did not allow a single breakpoint to Ectheverry out of Argentina. Alex was able to convert both of his breakpoints. Alex went to the ne ton seven occasions and won six out of the points. De Minaur had 14 winners and 25 unforced errors. He won 53% of the points in the match. Alex is currently ranked at the 7th position in the world of tennis.
