Novak Djokovic is back on the ATP tour after his semi final loss in Melbourne.
Nole will square off with Matteo Berrettini at the ATP 500 Qatar ExxonMobil Open. Stefanos Tisitipas will face the new Serbian tennis hope named Hamad Medjedovic.
The world number seven from Belgrade went out in the semis (to Zverev) at the Australian Open after he took care of Alcaraz in the QF. Novak’s ambition is to play more events on the tour in 2025 than he did last season. Playing in Doha is a part of that plan. Djokovic’s ambition is to play both Indian Wells and Miami next month. Djokovic have won seven out of the nine matches he has played on the ATP tour this season.
The Rome native Berrettoni has faced Novak on four occasions on the ATP tour and never won. This is the first match between them since the US Open in 2021. Matteo is currently ranked at the 35th position in the world. The 28 year old had to cope with injuries in the prior season. Berrettini went out in the first round at Rotterdam and in Brisbane. At the Australian Open Matteo lost in the round of 64.
The 21 year old Medjedovic just won his first ever title on the ATP Tour. Hamad won the ATP 250 Marseille and beat three players ranked among the top 21 in the world (Medvedev, Humpert and Khachanov). A great week for Medjedovic. Hamad is ranked at the 73rd spot which is his highest ever. Hamad has won five out of the seven matches he has played on the tour in 2025.
Stefanos and Hamad have faced each other once before on the ATP tour. It was last season on clay in Gstaad and Tsisipas won in two straight sets. The 26 year old from Athens is currently ranked at the 11th spot in the world. This is the 4th Entry of the season for Tsitsipas. Stefanos went out in the opening round in Melbourne to Michelsen. He lost in the QF in Rotterdam. Tsitsipas won one and lost one match at the United Cup. His record so far in 2025 is at 3-3.
