Two of best players on the ATP tour if the 2025 season will square off in a round of 16 clash at the Mutua Madrid Open. The Italian Lorenzo Muszetti will face the Australian Alex De Minaur for the fourth time ever. Musetti is up in the head to head.

MUSETTI IS UP IN THE HEAD TO HEAD WITH DE MINAUR

Lorenzo and Alex faced each other as recently as a couple of weeks ago at The ATP 1000 Rolex Masters in Monte Carlo. It was the semi final and Musetti won in three sets,1-6, 6-4, 7-6 (4). Musetti went on to lose the final to Alcaraz. They played once in the 2024 season at Queens and Lorenzo won that one too in three sets. The first encounter between them was at the Australian Open in 2023 and De Minaur won in four sets, In other words, Musetti is up two to one in the head to head.

MUSETTI TOOK OUT TSITSIPAS IN THE ROUND OF 32

A couple of weeks ago Musetti was down 0-5 in the head to head with Tsitsipas. It’s 2-5 now after he won in straight sets, 7-5, 7-6 (3). The match was over after one hour and 55 minutes. Lorenzo saved four out of five breakpoints he faced in the match. Musetti was able to convert two of the breakpoints he had on his serve. The Italian hit 22 winners and made 20 unforced errors in the match. Tsitsipas ratio was at 28-38. Musetti won 53% of the points in the match. Lorwnzo got the better of Etcheverry in the round of 64 in two sets.

DE MINAUR DEFEATED SHAPOVALOV IN THE ROUND OF 32

It took the Australian one hour and minutes 30 minutes to close the deal against Shapovalov. Alex won the match, 6-3, 7-5 (3). De Minaur was the steadier server of the two players and that was the main factor in the win. The Sydney native faced one breakpoint, which he saved. He converted two out of his own three. De Minaur had eleven winners and the same amount of unforced errors. Alex won 55% of the points in the match. De Minaur took out Sonego in the round of 64.

ALEX DE MINAUR SO FAR IN THE 2025 SEASON

The 26 year old from Italy is ranked at the 7th position in the world right now. He has not won a title yet this season, but he has one final berth. It was at the ATP 500 Rotterdam which he lost to Alcaraz. De Minaur has been playing well so far in the European clay swing with a semi spot in Monte Carlo and the QF at the ATP 500 Barcelona. He reached the QF at the Australian Open and in Doha too. De Minaur has won 24 and lost eight matches on the tour so far in the 2025 season.

LORENZO MUSETTI’S ACHIEVEMENTS IN THE 2025 SEASON

The 23 year old is ranked at the 11th spot currently. Musetti has a match record of 14 wins and five losses in the year of 2025. The final berth at the ATP 1000 Rolex Masters In Monte Carlo is his highlight of the 2025 season. He lost to Alcaraz. Lorenzo has had three top ten wins this season. Musetti reached the QF in Hong Kong and Buenos Aires. Madrid is only Musetti’s seventh entry of the year. De Minaur has a bit more at ten.
