The American Taylor Fritz and the Norwegian Casper Ruud will be squaring off today at the ATP 1000 Mutua Madrid Open Masters. It’s a round of 16 encounter and it’s the fourth match between them on the ATP tour. Not many matches were finished yesterday in Madrid due to a power break across the Nation of Spain.
The Norwegian Ruud is up two to one in the head to head with Fritz. The first Match between them was played back in 2022. It was in the round robin of the ATP finals in Turin and Ruud won the match in three sets. The second match Took place at Roland Garros last summer and Casper won in four sets. The Previous match between them was at the US Open last season and Fritz was able to beat Ruud for the first time ever (four sets). Fritz then went on to reach the final at the US Open. Which was his first ever Grand Slam final.
Taylor Fritz started out his campaign at the ATP 1000 Mutua Madrid Open by Beating O’Connell in straight sets in the round of 64. Fritz got the better of Bondi in the round of 32. Bondi retired from the match at the start of the third set. Fritz is currently ranked at the 4th position in the world. He is 27 years of age and his match record for the season is 16 wins and six lost games.
The 26 year old from Oslo hasn't lost a set yet at the ATP 1000 Mutua Madrid Open. Casper got the better of Rinderknech in the round of 64, 6-3, 6-4. Ruud took out Korda in the round of 32, 6-3, 6-3. The 26 year old Ruud is ranked at the 15th spot in the world. Casper has won 17 and lost six matches on the ATP tour in 2025.
Ruud's highlight of the year was the final berth at the ATP 250 Dallas in February. Casper lost the title match to Shapovalov in straight sets. Ruud reached the QF at The ATP 500 Barcelona Open last week. He has had a couple of round of 16 exits too. At The Rolex Masters in Monte Carlo, The Miami Masters and at the ATP 500 Acapulco.
Taylor Fritz started out the season by winning the United Cup for the States together with Coco Gauff. Taylor won four out of five matches in Perth and in Adelaide. Madrid is Taylor’s first entry on the tour since the ATP 1000 Miami Masters, where he got to the semi (lost to Mensik who won the title). Fritz reached The QF at Delray Beach and the round of 16 at Indian Wells and in Dallas.
