The ATP 250 Open 13 Provence in Marseille has started. We have the fifth and seventh seed in action today. Sebastian Korda will square off with Otto Virtanen from Finland. Lorenzo Sonego will face Botic Van De Zandschulp for the first time ever on the ATP Tour.
The 23-year-old Virtanen is currently ranked just inside the top 100 at the 98th position. Otto has only played two matches so far in the 2025 season and lost both of them. Virtanen went out in the first round of the Australian Open to Arthur Fils. Otto turned pro back in 2018 and has spent a chunk of time on the Challenger tour. Perhaps this season is the one for Otto to establish himself on the main tour.
Sebastian Korda had a great start to the 2025 season as he reached the final at the ATP 250 Adelaide International. He lost it to Auger-Aliassime, though. Korda went out in the round of 64 in Melbourne to Vukic. The 23-year-old American is currently ranked at the 23rd spot in the world. His highest ever was at number 15 after he won the title in Washington in the summer of 2024. Virtanen and Korda have never faced each other before on the tour.
The 29-year-old Italian Sonego is currently ranked at number 35 in the world of tennis. Lorenzo, from the city of Turin, has had a good start to the 2025 season. Sonego just reached the QFs at the Australian Open in Melbourne and lost to Shelton in four sets. Sonego played in Rotterdam last week but lost to Rune in the first round. The Italian has won six out of the ten matches he has played on the ATP tour in 2025.
The 29-year-old Dutchman has had a rough start to the season with a couple of first-round exits. He went out straight away in Melbourne, Montpellier, and Rotterdam and did not make the qualies in Auckland. Botic is still winless this season. He is ranked at the 85th position in the world. His highest ever was at number 22 back 30 months ago. Sonego and Van De Zandschulp have never faced each other on the main tour. But they squared off in the qualies to the Paris Indoor Masters and Sonego won that one.
