The Miami Masters presented by Itau is starting today in South Florida.
The French veteran Gael Monfils will square off with the Hungarian Fabian Marozsan. The American McKenzie McDonald will face Nick Kyrgios from Australia for the third time ever on the ATP tour.
Marozsan comes from the Hungarian capital, Budapest. Fabian is currently ranked at the 59th spot in the world. Fabi’s highest-ever ranking was at the 36th spot in May of last year. The 25-year-old turned pro back in 2017. Fabi is yet to win his first title on the ATP Tour. Marozsan started out the 2025 season with a QF berth in Hong Kong. Fabian went out in the round of 32 at the Australian Open in Melbourne. He reached the second round in Rotterdam and in Doha. Marozsan lost in the opening round in Dubai and reached the second round in Indian Wells. Fabian has played 15 matches on the ATP tour in 2025 and won eight of them.
Fabian Marozsan has only played against Gael Monfils on one occasion so far on the ATP tour. It was about 15 months ago at the start of the 2024 season in Auckland (New Zealand). It was a very close match that went to three sets. The Hungarian won the match that finished 6-4, 6-7 (6), 7-6 (4). So, in other words, Fabian is up one to nothing in the head-to-head with Gael.
The 38-year-old Monfils from Paris is one of the most popular and appreciated players on the ATP tour. Well deservedly so, too. Gael turned pro back in 2004 and has been around for a pretty good while, to say the least. Gael Monfils has played well to start the 2025 season. He started out the season by reaching the second round in Brisbane. Monfils went on to win the title in Auckland (def. Bergs in the final). He lost in the round of 16 at the Australian Open (to Shelton). Gael went out in the opening round in Dubai (Berrettini) and got to the round of 32 in Indian Wells (lost to Dimitrov). Monfils is currently ranked at the 46th position in the world. Gael has won eleven and lost four matches on the ATP tour in 2025.
The big-serving Australian Nick Kyrgios has faced a huge amount of adversity over the last couple of years. Injury after injury has ruined his chances to become something of a true factor on the ATP tour. We all know what kind of potential he has on the court. Nick has hardly played on the tour since the 2022 season.
Kyrgios tried to play in Indian Wells but had to retire from his first-round match against Van De Zandschulp. Kyrgios played in Brisbane and lost in the opening round (Mpetschi Perricard). Just as he did at the Australian Open in Melbourne (lost to Fearnley). Kyrgios is in the draw thanks to his protected ranking. His record for the season is three losses and zero wins. His current ranking is at the 892nd spot. Kyrgios' highest-ever ranking was at number 13 back in 2016.
McKenzie and Nick have faced each other two times on the tour. They have won one match each. The first match took place in Washington in 2021 and McDonald won it. The second one was played in Houston in 2023 and Kyrgios got the better of McKenzie in that one.
The 29-year-old McDonald is ranked just outside the top 100 at the 101st spot in the world. The California native turned pro back in 2016 and is yet to win a title on the main tour. He is mixing his time between the ATP and Challenger Tour. McDonald did not qualify for the Australian Open. He got to the second round at Delray Beach and in Indian Wells.
