The 10th day of the German Bundesliga kicks off with a clash in Berlin between Union and Freiburg. Both clubs are positioned in the middle of the Bundesliga table currently. Freiburg is only one point ahead of Union Berlin. Both clubs are in the hunt for spots in European competition the upcoming season.
Union Berlin haven’t won any of their last two fixtures in the Bundesliga. Union lost to Bayern Munich last week away (0-3) and the previous fixture they drew at home with Frankfurt. The Danish manager Bo Svensson needs all of the three points tonight to keep the cubs hopes realistic about a spot in European competition next season. Union Berlin has won 4, drew 3 and lost 2 matches in the Bundesliga so far this season. Union has conceded the second fewest goals (8). Only Bayern Munich have conceded less goals in Bundesliga this season (7).
Bo Svensson and Unkun Berlin have a very big problem this season. They can hardly score any goals. Union Berlin has only scored 9 goals so far this season. Only St Pauli, who are just above the relegation zone, have scored fewer goals at this point. They need to get the goalscoring going if they want to participate in European competition next season.
The visitors Freiburg are one spot ahead of Union Berlin in the standings. They currently sit at the 6th position and have 16 points to Union’s 15. Both teams have identical records over the last five games. They have won two out of their last five fixtures in the domestic league play. They’ve got one draw and two losses each as well. Freiburg had a goalless draw with Mainz in their previous match. Freiburg has scored 13 and allowed 11 goals in their nine league fixtures.
Freiburg are scoring few goals and lately they haven't created many opportunities to score either. It is worrisome for the coach Julian Schuster without a doubt. The two midfielders Doan (4) and Grifo (3) are the best scorers so far. The attacker from Denmark, Adamu, has scored two goals.
Bo Svensson will have to play without Stein and Juranovic. Tousart is questionable for Union Berlin. As far as Freiburg goes they have Gulde, Schmidt, Keyre, Rohl and Makengo out for this game.
