It’s a story of the top vs the bottom of the table in our Euroleague clash of the night. Fenerbahce tops the table of the Turkish Airlines Euroleague. Bologna sits at the 17th spot and will try to make a surprise by beating the favourites.
Fenerbahce are on a roll currently with five straight Euroleague wins and two straight in the domestic Turkish league. Head coach Sarunas Juskevicius must be satisfied with the current state of affairs for the powerhouse from Istanbul. Fener took care of Zalgiris last week (72-65). That was a statement win away from home. Rebounding was the decisive factor of that match. Fenerbahce out rebounded Zalgiris 45 to 33.
Fenernahce has played ten games in the Turkish Airlines Euroleague and won eight of the games. Fenerbahce has a really deep roster ready to win the biggest titles there is in Europe. Fenerbahce and Bologna have won two games each out of the last four played between them. Nigel Hayes is playing really well for Fenerbahce as of late.
Bologna has lost two straight games in the Euroleague. Panathinaikos at home (77-82) and away to Real Madrid (86-98). Bologna defeated Maccabi in week eight of the Euroleague at home (84-77). That was only their second win of the season. With a record of two wins and eight losses Bologna sit at the 17th spot in the table of the Euroleague. The only team behind them in the standings is Alba Berlin. The story is totally different in the domestic league. Bologna has won seven out of eight games. They are second in the table of the Italian basketball Lega Basket Serie A.
The major problem so far this season for Bologna is their inconsistency. At least in the Euroleague. One week they play very well and the next they play really bad. The roster is not bad at all with some top names on it. Like Clyburn, Shengelia, Hacket and Polonara. Let’s not forget about the Frenchman Cordinier who had a great Olympics in Paris this summer. The roster is not comparable to the one that Fener has. With all that all said, Bologna must be more consistent going forward.
