Manchester United and Rangers are set to meet at Old Trafford in a very important Europa League battle. Both teams sit at the bottom of the top eight of the 36 team table searching for an automatic last 16 spot. The hosts are having a tough season with manager Amorim describing it as “maybe the worst” in the clubs history, meanwhile, Rangers are on a roll with new manager Philippe Clement.
For Manchester United this season has been turbulent under head coach Ruben Amorim. A humbling 3-1 loss to Brighton last weekend left them sitting 13th in the Premier League, closer on points to the relegation zone than the top six. Despite a run of just three wins in their last 11 league games, the Red Devils remain undefeated in this season's Europa League but with three draws they can only manage seventh place. A victory here would strengthen their chances of advancing to the round of 16, with them playing their final league stage game against FCSB on the 30th.
Rangers, meanwhile, have turned a corner under Philippe Clement winning three straight games by a combined score of 11-1. A 5-0 Scottish Cup victory over Fraserburgh courtesy of Cyriel Dessers hat trick was followed by league wins over St Johnstone and Aberdeen. Despite sitting 13 points behind Celtic domestically Rangers are well positioned in Europe four points clear of the elimination zone. However, their record against English sides on the road remains shaky, with just one win in their last eight attempts. On the table Rangers sit just behind United by one point and a win today could see them enter the middle pack of the top eight.
The Red Devils remain without Luke Shaw, Mason Mount, Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans due to injuries. Marcus Rashford is set to miss his 10th consecutive match amidst ongoing transfer speculation, while Antony is unlikely to feature as he nears a loan move to Real Betis.
Dujon Sterling, John Souttar, Oscar Cortes, Neraysho Kasanwirjo and Tom Lawrence remain sidelined, while Mohamed Diomande is suspended. New signing Rafael Fernandes is ineligible as Jack Butland could return in goal
