Carlos Alcaraz will be stepping into the action at Indian Wells tonight. Carlos is the defending champion in the California desert. Alcaraz will square off with Quentin Halys from France. The Brazilian teenage sensation, Joao Fonseca, will face the Britton, Jack Draper, for the first time ever on the ATP Tour.
Joao Fonseca, 18 years of age, might be the most talked about player on the ATP tour at the moment. Joao has already won a title this season (ATP 250 Buenis Aires) and he is captivating tennis fans with his style of play. Fonseca, a wild card at the event, started out his campaign in Indian Wells by defeating another player from Great Britain, Jacob Fearnley. Joao won the match 6-2, 1-6, 6-3. The Brazilian teenager saved six out of the nine breakballs he had to deal with. Fonseca hit 17 winners to his 34 unforced errors. Joao won nine out of eleven points at the net. Fonseca won 52% of all the points played in the match. Joao is currently ranked at the 80th position in the world. Fonseca has won seven out of the ten matches he has played on the tour in 2025.
The 23-year-old Briton is one of the seeded players at the event in the desert and therefore he did not play in the round of 128. This will be the first match between the two of them. Draper from Sutton is a left-hander and he is ranked at the 14th spot in the world currently. Draper has only played at two tournaments in 2025. The Australian Open and the ATP 250 Doha. Jack reached the final in Doha but lost to Rublev. During the week in Doha, Jack Draper got the better of players like Berrettini and Lehecka. Jack played well in Melbourne too. Draper reached the round of 16 (lost to Alcaraz). He is a fighter on the court and never gives up.
The Frenchman Quentin Halys took care of the Spanish veteran Pablo Carreno Busta in the opening round at Indian Wells. Halys won the match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. Quentin had nine aces (three double faults) and won 85% of the points on his first serve. His second serve was not working well and Quentin was able to save five out of the seven breakballs he faced. Halys was able to convert four out of eight breakballs on his own. Halys is 28 years of age and ranked at the 59th position in the world. He reached the semis in Dubai after he was able to qualify for the event. Before Dubai, Halys had three straight first-round exits in Marseille, Montpellier, and Doha. He went out in the second round at the Australian Open. Quentin has won five and lost five matches so far in the 2025 season.
Carlos Alcaraz has never faced Quentin Halys before on the tour. The 21-year-old from the Spanish town of Murcia is the highest-seeded left in the draw since Zverev lost to Griekspoor last night. Carlos is naturally a huge favorite to win this match on the Centre Court (Stadium One). This is only his fourth entry of the year for the current world number three. Carlos started out the season by going out in the QF versus Djokovic at the Australian Open in Melbourne. Alcaraz went on to win the title at the ATP 500 in Rotterdam. Carlitos also played in Doha but lost to Lehecka in the QF. Alcaraz has won eleven and only lost two matches so far this season on the ATP tour.
