Brighton & Hove Albion are able to move up to second place in the Premier League with a win against Southampton but a loss may put them out of the top five. Meanwhile, Southampton looks to gather some points and get out of the relegation zone with only four of them so far.
The Seagulls are aiming for their third victory in a row having recently defeated Bournemouth and Manchester City, with the victory over City making it their four win in six league games. Brighton also remain unbeaten at home this season earning 12 points from six games but clean sheets have been a rare sight, with just four in their last 15 matches at home. After struggling against Southampton in their earlier Premier League meetings, Brighton have turned the tables with three wins in their last five encounters, including a 3-1 home victory in May of 2023.
Southampton face an uphill battle to escape the bottom of the Premier League, sitting five points from safety. The Saints lost 3-2 to Liverpool last weekend after squandering a 2-1 lead, making it their tenth loss this season. Scoring just nine goals while conceding 27, Russell Martin’s side are desperate to avoid a third straight league defeat. Despite their struggles Southampton have scored in all 12 Premier League matches against Brighton and have lost only once in their last six visits to the Amex Arena. So with only a single win this season they hope to gather strength and get a good result.
Brightons James Milner, Solly March, Jack Hinshelwood and Adam Webster are unavailable. Ferdi Kadioglu and Yankuba Minteh face late fitness tests while Lewis Dunk and Tariq Lamptey are fit to return. Matt O’Riley is likely to start alongside Yasin Ayari or Mats Wieffer in midfield with Joao Pedro leading the attack.
For Southampton injuries rule out Aaron Ramsdale, Gavin Bazunu, Jan Bednarek, Ross Stewart, William Smallbone and Adam Lallana. Paul Onuachu may recover from a knee problem in time to feature. Joe Aribo and Matheus Fernandes are likely midfield starters while Adam Armstrong leads the attack.
Brighton & Hove Albion possible lineup: Verbruggen; Veltman, Van Hecke, Igor, Estupinan; Wieffer, O'Riley; Rutter, Pedro, Mitoma; Welbeck
Southampton possible lineup: McCarthy; Walker-Peters, Harwood-Bellis, Downes, Stephens, Manning; Aribo, Fernandes; Dibling, Archer, Armstrong
