Liverpool are still in the top of the Premier League standings. The Reds drew to their City rivals Everton earlier in the week. That was the last Merseyside derby ever to be played at Goodison Park. Liverpool’s manager, Arne Slot, will be on the sidelines even though he got sent off. The Wolves are fighting for their survival in the Premier League.
Wolverhampton got a very important win last time around in the Premiership. The Wolves took care of Aston Villa (2-0). The Wolves currently sit at the 17th positionin the PL standings. Just two points above Leicester in the very feared relegation zone. Wolverhampton also took care of Blackburn (2-0) in the FA-Cup over the weekend.
The Wolves had four straight losses in the Premier League before the Aston Villa win. Vitor Pereira took over the reins at Molineux in December 2024. His obvious mission is to keep the club in the Premier League. It will be surely be a tough ask but far from undoable. The Brazilian striker, Matteus Cunha, is the best goalscorer for the club with eleven goals. The second best scorer is the Norwegian striker, Jorgen Strand Larsen, with seven goals so far this season.
Liverpool faced Everton midweek in the last ever Merseyside derby at Goodison Park. The Reds were up 2-1 before Tarkowski’s late equaliser in the 98th minute. The manager Arne Slot got sent off after the game was over and he shook the referee's Micheal Oliver’s hand too hard. Slot will likely get a suspension but has some time to respond to the charge. Liverpool went out in the FA-Cup surprisingly to Plymouth Argyle last weekend.
In The Premier League the club just keeps on winning and winning. Liverpool has won six out of their last nine games (three draws too) in the Premiership. The Reds are currently seven points ahead of Arsenal the second spot in the PL standings. Liverpool have only lost one game so far this season in the Premiership.
Curtis Jones is suspended for Liverpool. Joe Gomez and Tyler Morton are out. Cody Gapko is questionable. The Wolves have to do without Hwang Hee-Chan. Jorgen Strand Larsen and Boubocar Traore are both doubtful.
