Olympiacos face off against Panathinaikos in the Super League at the Karaiskakis Stadium looking to solidify their position at the top of the table. The league leaders head into this match on a 16 game unbeaten run having secured a 1-0 victory over OFI last time out. Panathinaikos, meanwhile, are looking to shake off an inconsistent run of form that saw them drop points in three of their last five games.
With a seven point lead at the summit Thrylos are closing in on their record extending 18th Super League title. But with an early exit form the Europa League they are in great need of domestic success. They remain undefeated in domestic competition since October and boast both the second best attack (45 goals) and the joint best defense (16 goals conceded) in the league. However, Olympiacos have struggled in recent meetings with Panathinaikos, winning just once in their last 10 encounters across all competitions, a 1-0 victory in the domestic cup in February.
A late equalizer salvaged a 1-1 draw against Atromitos in their final regular season match, leaving them 10 points adrift of Olympiacos. With only three points separating them from second placed AEK Athens, Panathinaikos still have a chance to push for a Champions League qualification spot. However, their attacking struggles remain a concern and they must improve in front of goal to challenge the league leaders. Historically, the rivalry has been evenly contested with Olympiacos trailing Panathinaikos by just one win in 94 meetings (34-33). Six of their last 10 clashes have ended in draws suggesting another tight affair could be on the cards.
The hosts have no major injury concerns and are expected to field a strong lineup. Their only absentee is attacker Yazici who has only played one game so far.
Panathinaikos also have no injury concerns as the side will need everything they have got to compete with Olympiakos.
