TENNIS: BETTER WEATHER IN MONTREAL TODAY?

Yesterday’s evening session at the National Bank Open in Montreal was postponed due to bad weather and will start off the event today. So our predictions from yesterday are still out there of you want to check them out. Our predictions today are about Dimitrov vs Poyrin and Zverev vs Rune.

GRIGOR DIMOTROV VS ALEXEI POPYRIN

We are in the round of 16 in Montreal and the veteran Dimitrov, 33 years old at this point will be facing off with Popyrin from Australia. The season has been good so far for Dimnitrov. He is ranked at the 10th spot in the World and he has won 32 out of the 43 matches he has played on the tour in 2024.He won the title in Brisbane at the start of the year. This is his first event since Wimbledon where he retired in the round of 16 vs Medvedev. In the round of 32 the 7th seed Dimitrov easily defeated Rinky Hijikata from Australia in straight sets (6-1, 6-0). The 24 year old Popyrin is currently ranked at the 62nd spot in the world. In the round of 64 he defeated Machac in straight sets and in the round of 32 he got the better of Shelton in straight sets (6-4, 7-6). Poyrin has played 29 matches on the tour in 2024 and won 14 of them.

HOLGER RUNE VS ALEXANDER ZVEREV

Alexander Zverev defeated Jordan Thompson in the round of 32 right after his arrival from the Olympic games in Paris. He won the match in straight sets (6-1, 6-1). Thompson recently won the Atlanta Open so this was a good effort from Sascha. He will now play Holger Rune in the round of 16. Rune, seeded 13th at the event, he played in both rounds. In the first round he got the better of Roberto Bautista - Agut in three sets (6-2, 3-6, 6-2). In the round of 32 Holger defeated Carreno Busta in straight sets (6-3, 6-1). Rune hasn't passed the quarter finals at any event since he played in Munich in mid april. He needs to find his groove. Zverev is up two to nothing in the head two heads, all three matches between them has been on clay. Rune has zero titles this season and Zverev has one (ATP 1000 Masters Rome).
