This week Canada is in the limelight of the tennis world because of The Rogers Cup. This year the Gent’s are playing in Montreal and The ladies are in Toronto. These two events are on the ATP & WTA 1000 level. Sinner is making his comeback on the tour after the injury At Wimbledon. Zverev and Medvedev are seeded at 2nd and 3rd.
The Canadien Milos Raonic received a wild card to the event and the Serve phenomen have a chance to upset the Dane Holger Rune. To be Honest Rune’s season has been underwhelming both for him and his Devoted team. With Montreal this week and Cincinnati next week, two ATP 100 events, Rune could turn things around before the US Open starts In three weeks. Rune has fallen down to the 17th position in the world and He has won 27 out of the 42 matches he has played on tour in 2024. He is without titles so far this season. His confidence form previous season’s Is gone and he needs to get back to that level of confidence slowly but Surely.
Milos Raonic hasn’t played much on the tour the last couple of seasons. In 2024 he has only played 11 matches on the main tour, He won 5 of them. Currently the 33 year old Canadien with heritage from Montenegro and Serbia, is ranked at the 180th spot in the world. One of the matches Milos Raonic was supposed to play this season was at Indian Wells versus Holger Rune but he had to do a walkover due to injury. So with Milos the question always is these days how fit he is and what version of himself he will be on the court. This will Be their first matchup and it will start the evening session on the centre court.
This is the second match of the evening session on the centre court. Tiafoe Has played Atlanta and Washington after he lost to Alcaraz at Wimbledon. He reached the semi final at Washington the past week but lost to Korda. In Atlanta he lost to Nishioka in the quarter final. Both Nishioka and Korda went On to win in Atlanta and Washington. Tiafoe is currently ranked at the 27 spot In the world and he has won 19 out of the 36 matches he has played on the ATP Tour in 2024. He is looking for the right answers before the US Open Starts. Perhaps he can find some of the answers this week in Montreal. His opponent from Chile, Alejandro Tabilo, has had a great season so far with two titles won. He won his maiden title on the tour in Auckland and the second one on grass in Mallorca. The 27 year old left hander was actually born in Canada (Toronto) and is currently ranked At the 21st position in the world. Tiafoe is up One to nothing in the head two heads. He won last year at Indian Wells in the Round of 16 in straight sets.
