UFC 314 FIGHT CARD: VOLKANOVSKI VS LOPES

PUBLISHED: 4/10, 09:40 AM

Get ready for chaos, violence, and legacy-defining moments—UFC 314 is coming in hot.

This Saturday, April 12, the Kaseya Center in Miami will be the epicenter of combat sports as UFC 314 unleashes one of the most stacked cards of the year.

At the top of the bill, a new king will be crowned. Former featherweight champ Alexander Volkanovski returns to reclaim gold—but standing in his way is the electrifying, fast-rising phenom Diego Lopes. The vacant UFC featherweight title is up for grabs, and neither man plans to leave it to the judges.

In the co-main event, it’s all fireworks: fan-favorite Paddy Pimblett steps into the Octagon for his toughest test yet against former three-time Bellator champion and UFC title challenger Michael Chandler. It’s a five-round war that could shake up the lightweight landscape.

But the chaos doesn’t stop there—Patrício “Pitbull” Freire, the most decorated champion in Bellator history, makes his UFC debut against striking technician and former interim champ Yair Rodríguez in a must-watch featherweight clash.

Also on the card, a violent featherweight brawl between Bryce Mitchell and Jean Silva, and a light heavyweight slugfest between Nikita Krylov and Dominick Reyes.

This is not just another pay-per-view. This is where futures are forged and legends are made. UFC 314. April 12. Miami. Don’t blink.

ALEXANDER VOLKANOVSKI #1 VS DIEGO LOPES #3

FEATHERWEIGHT TITLE BOUT

Alexander Volkanovski (26-4) is no ordinary former champion—he’s arguably the greatest featherweight in UFC history. From December 2019 to February 2024, he ruled the 145-pound division with an iron will and unmatched fight IQ, defending his title five times against the best of the best. His reign began by toppling Max Holloway, and for years, no one could touch him—until Ilia Topuria shocked the world with a brutal knockout that ended his era.

But that wasn’t Volk’s only taste of adversity. Twice, he dared to chase double-champ glory by challenging Islam Makhachev at lightweight—first losing by decision, then falling via knockout in the rematch. Now, 36 years old and coming off back-to-back stoppages, questions swirl. Has the king lost his edge? Or is this the calm before the storm?

Standing across from him is the surging phenom Diego Lopes (26-6)—and make no mistake, the hype is real. Since his short-notice debut against Mosvar Evloev in May 2023 (a fight many, including myself, thought he won), Lopes has been unstoppable. Five straight wins, each more impressive than the last, capped off by a decision victory over two-time title challenger Brian Ortega at UFC 306. Lopes isn’t just climbing the ranks—he’s tearing through them.

This isn’t just a title fight. It’s a crossroads. Will Volkanovski prove the doubters wrong and remind the world why he was once untouchable? Or will Diego Lopes, the unshakable underdog turned nightmare matchup, slam the door shut on the old era and usher in a new one?

MICHAEL CHANDLER #7 VS PADDY PIMBLETT #12

LIGHTWEIGHT BOUT

Michael Chandler (23-9) has waited years for a shot at Conor McGregor that never came. After two years out of action, he returned at UFC 309 but fell short in a decision loss to former champ Charles Oliveira. Now, the 38-year-old former Bellator king—who held the lightweight title three times—is out to prove he’s still got fire in the tank. Chandler’s UFC record may sit at 2-4, but every opponent he’s faced has been elite: Gaethje, Poirier, Oliveira, Hooker—no easy outs, no shortcuts.

Enter Paddy “The Baddy” Pimblett (22-3)—brash, bold, and unbeaten in the UFC at 6-0. The former Cage Warriors champ has captured fans with his wild personality and exciting style, but critics have questioned the level of opposition he’s faced. That all changes now. Chandler is no warm-up. This is Pimblett’s first true test against a veteran who’s walked through fire his entire career.

Pimblett is coming off a slick submission win over Bobby Green at UFC 304 and carries a wave of momentum. He’s ranked No. 12 in the lightweight division and knows that a win here could catapult him into title contention. But Chandler? He’s fighting like it’s now or never.

YAIR RODRIGUEZ #5 VS PATRICIO FREIRE

FEATHERWEIGHT BOUT

Yair Rodriguez (19-5, 1 NC) has lived through highs, heartbreaks, and highlight-reel madness since arriving in the UFC in 2014, winning The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America. But the turning point came when Frankie Edgar battered him so badly in 2017 that doctors stopped the fight after two rounds. That loss could’ve broken him—but Rodriguez came back wild.

From the last-second, no-way-he-just-did-that elbow KO over Korean Zombie to the war with Jeremy Stephens, Rodriguez has shown flashes of brilliance laced with unpredictability. A valiant decision loss to Max Holloway, an injury TKO win over Brian Ortega, and a slick submission over Josh Emmett gave him interim gold. But then came a brutal knockout from Volkanovski, followed by an Ortega revenge choke. And now? He’s on his first career losing skid—and it’s do-or-die.

Across from him stands Patricio “Pitbull” Freire (36-7), one of the most decorated champions outside the UFC. A Bellator legend with titles in two divisions, Pitbull enters the Octagon with fire in his eyes and legacy on his mind. He’s been tearing through competition for over a decade, from exacting revenge on Pat Curran, to choking out Daniel Straus and smashing Michael Chandler to become a two-division champ.

Now, at 37, Freire finally makes his long-awaited UFC debut after yet another title defense in Bellator. And he’s not easing in. He’s going straight at Rodriguez—straight at the top.

The rising chaos of Yair vs. the ruthless calm of Pitbull. One looking to save his legacy. The other ready to carve a new one.

BRYCE MITCHELL #13 VS JEAN SILVA

FEATHERWEIGHT BOUT

Bryce “Thug Nasty” Mitchell (17-2) has always marched to the beat of his own banjo—but even in a division full of wild cards, he’s carved out a lane that’s entirely his own. From choking out Matt Sayles with a twister to decisioning Edson Barboza and rocking camo shorts in the Octagon, Mitchell looked like a rising force at 145. At one point, he was 15-0 and ranked inside the top ten.

But when he ran into Ilia Topuria in 2022, everything changed. Topuria submitted Mitchell with ease, handing him his first professional loss. Mitchell rebounded with a gritty decision over Dan Ige, only to suffer a violent knockout at the hands of Josh Emmett—a loss that saw him stretchered out cold and silenced questions about his durability. After nearly a year away, he came back in December 2024 with a thunderous KO over Kron Gracie, reminding the division that “Thug Nasty” still hits hard and talks even harder.

Then came that podcast clip. In it, Mitchell said he believes “Hitler was a good guy” based on his own “research.” The backlash was instant. He was booed relentlessly during the UFC 314 press conference—his first appearance since making the comment. Still, Mitchell, now ranked No. 13, brushed it off. “They hate me ‘cause I think for myself,” he told reporters.

His opponent, Jean Silva (3-0 UFC), didn’t miss the chance to turn up the heat. First, he brought a globe to the presser, mocking Mitchell’s flat-earth claims. Then he led the crowd in a NSFW chant aimed squarely at the Arkansas native.

Silva has exploded onto the scene in 2024, stacking knockouts like dominoes. He finished Charles Jourdain with a head kick, then moved up a division and bloodied Drew Dober in a brutal TKO win. Most recently, he starched Melsik Baghdasaryan in the first round this February. The Brazilian has speed, power, and ruthless finishing instincts—and he's looking to make Mitchell his fourth straight highlight.

Silva isn’t ranked yet. But if he hands Mitchell another humbling loss on Saturday night, that’ll change real fast.

Politics, personal jabs, and bad blood. This one’s not just a featherweight banger—it’s a grudge match wrapped in chaos.

NIKITA KRYLOV #8 VS DOMINICK REYES #11

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT BOUT

It’s been over two years since we last saw Nikita Krylov (30-9) throw hands inside the Octagon, but when he left, he was on fire—racking up a trio of big-name wins. He brutalized Alexander Gustafsson with a first-round finish, outlasted Volkan Oezdemir in a gritty decision, and then submitted Ryan Spann in a clinical display of control and aggression. A staple of the light heavyweight Top 10, Krylov now returns from the shadows, but questions linger: after so much time away, can he pick up right where he left off?

On the other side of the cage, Dominick Reyes (14-4) is a man reborn. Not long ago, he was the guy who many thought beat Jon Jones. But that fight kicked off a brutal four-fight skid, one that included highlight-reel knockouts and a year completely wiped out by injury. People began writing him off. Then came his June comeback—where he silenced the doubters with a clean finish of Dustin Jacoby. He followed that up with a statement win over Anthony Smith at UFC 310 in December. Now? He’s surging, confident, and hunting a Top 5 spot once again.

This fight feels like a turning point. Either Krylov comes back and reasserts himself as a force in the 205-pound division—or Reyes keeps the resurrection going and kicks off 2025 with a third straight finish.

Two experienced killers. Two very different trajectories. One massive opportunity.
