A year ago Poland lost the United Cup final to Germany after Hurkacz blew two matchpoints. Poland will face The US in the final of this year's edition of the United Cup. Coco Gauff will face Iga Swiatek. Both are undefeated in Australia. Taylor Fritz will square off with Herbert Hurkacz.
So Coco Gauff is down 2-11 in the head to head with Iga Swiatek. The good news is that Gauff is only down 2-4 in the last six matches. As a matter of fact, Coco won their most recent encounter at the WTA Tour Finals in Riyadh (6-3, 6-4). Swiatek, the world number two, won the first seven matches between them. The big question ahead of the match is if Gauff can repeat the feat from November in Riyadh. After her early exit at the US Open, Coco has raised her game significantly.
One of Coco Gauff and Iga Swiatek will go through the United Cup without a loss. Iga has won all of her four matches and only lost one set to start the season. The 23-year-old Swiatek has beaten Helgo, Muchova, Boulter, and Rybakina. The 20-year-old Coco has not lost a set yet at the United Cup in Australia. Gauff has defeated Fernandez, Vekic, Zhang, and Muchova so far in Perth and Sydney. Coco is currently ranked at the third spot in the world.
Both Fritz and Hurkacz have struggled at the beginning of the United Cup. Hurkacz started out with two losses. To Ruud in straight sets and to Machac in three sets. The 27-year-old got the better of Billy Harris in the QF and Alexander Shevchenko in the semis. Herbert won these two matches in straight sets. Fritz lost his first match to Auger-Aliassime in three sets to start the United Cup. Fritz has stacked up three straight wins against Coric and Zhang in straight sets. The 27-year-old Fritz lost the first set to Machac in the semis and was up 6-5 in the second when the Czech retired from the match.
These two players have faced off with each other on five occasions so far on the ATP tour. The American is up 3-2. Taylor won their previous match at the ATP 1000 Madrid Masters (clay). Hurkacz and Fritz faced each other at the United Cup in 2023 and Fritz won that one. Taylor and Herbert are one all on outside hardcourts. Hurkacz is ranked at the 16th position in the world while Fritz is at number four.
