Xinyu Gao was the unsung hero for Team China in the last round-robin match. Gao defeated Laura Siegemund (Germany), securing China’s spot in the quarterfinals with her win. Gao has also triumphed over Haddad Maia from Brazil at the United Cup. Gao is replacing Zheng, who withdrew from the event. Currently ranked at 175th in the world, this will be Gao's first-ever meeting with Gauff.
Coco Gauff has won both of her matches at the United Cup so far. She comfortably defeated Donna Vekic and Leylah Fernandez, not dropping a set to either. The 20-year-old Gauff is ranked third in the world and has been moving well on the court while striking the ball effectively in Perth. Gauff is a heavy favorite in this matchup.
Taylor Fritz defeated Borna Coric in his second match of the United Cup, a significant victory for Fritz as he was previously 0-4 in their head-to-head record. Fritz faced Felix Auger-Aliassime in his opening match in Perth, losing in three sets. The 27-year-old Fritz is ranked 4th in the world and enjoyed the best season of his career in 2024, reaching his first-ever Grand Slam final at the US Open.
Zhizhen Zhang is ranked 45th in the world. The 28-year-old holds a 1-0 head-to-head lead over Fritz, having defeated him at the ATP 1000 Madrid Masters (clay surface) in 2023 in three close sets. At the United Cup, the Shanghai native has recorded a win against Thiago Monteiro and a loss to Sasha Zverev.
