Italy and the Czech Republic will square off in the last QF of the United Cup in Sydney. Jasmina Paolini will square off with the tricky Karolina Muchova. Flavio Cobolli will face Tomas Machac for the first time ever.
This will be the fifth time Paolini faces Muchova, and she has lost all of the four prior matches between them. The last one was played at the US Open last season, and Muchova won in two sets. Karolina has only lost one set to Paolini in their four encounters. Muchova is ranked at the 22nd position in the world. Her highest ever was at number two back in September 2023. Karolina has defeated Helgo and lost to Swiatek so far at the United Cup.
Jasmina Paolini has won two out of her two matches in Sydney. She took care of Belinda Bencic (6-1, 6-1) in her opening match. In her second match, Paolini got the better of Claire Pacquet from France (6-0, 6-2). Paolini had the season of her career in 2024 and reached the Wimbledon final but lost to Krejcikova. She got to the final at Roland Garros but lost to Swiatek. Jasmina is ranked at the fourth position in the world.
The 22-year-old Cobolli has won both of his matches at the United Cup. Cobolli got the better of Dominick Stricker (two sets) in his first match and Ugo Humbert in the second one (three sets). The Florence native is ranked at the 32nd spot in the world currently. Flavio won 35 and lost 27 matches on the ATP tour in 2024. He did not win a title but reached his first final ever at the ATP 500 in Washington.
Tomas Machac has beaten Hubert Hurkacz at the United Cup in Sydney and lost to Casper Ruud. He was up against Ruud, but the Norwegian put in a huge effort and made an impressive comeback to win the match in the end. Machac is 24 years of age and currently ranked at the 25th position in the world.
