Novak Djokovic has played nine finals at Wimbledon and won seven. Today he has the opportunity to reach his 10th final. Lorenzo Musetti had never been beyond the 4th round at any major before Wimbledon and now he has a chance to make the final of a Grand Slam for the first time.
Musetti and Djokovic have played each other six times and there has been some drama involved, for sure. Djokovic is up 5-1 and four of their matches has been on clay and two on hard courts (one each outdoor & indoor). The drama has occurred on two occasions. Their first and last matchup. Both at the French Open. The played in the round of 32 at Roland Garros this year and Djokovic won it in five sets. The match did not end until 3.08 AM. Neither of the players were happy with that after the match. The played each other the first time in the 4th round at French Open in 2021 and Musetti was up two to nothing in sets and Djokovic came back and won. Musetti retired down 0-4 in the fifth set. They have won one match each in Monte Carlo. And Djokovic has beaten Musetti in Dubai and the Paris masters.
All of Musetti’s five wins at Wimbledon this summer has gone to four or five sets. Musetti’s run have magic so far and he has absolutely nothing to lose in today’s match. In the opening round he got the better of Lestienne in four sets. In the round of 64 he won against his compatriot, Darderi, in five sets. In the third round he defeated Comesana in four sets. In the round of 16 he Played Mpetchi Perricard from France and won in four sets. In the quarter final he defeated Taylor Fritz in five sets. The 25 ranked Musetti, is having the ff his tennis life so far at Wimbledon
The 24 time Grand Slam champion has lost two sets in the four matches he has played so far at Wimbledon 2024. We’ll get back to them shortly. Alex De Minaur couldn’t play the quarter final due to injury, so Djokovic got a walkover. In the opening round he got the better of the Czech qualifier, Kopriva, in straight sets. In the round of 64 he won against the Scottish qualifier, Fearnley, in four sets. Popyrin was his opponent in the third round and Djokovic won it in four sets. In the 4th round he defeated Holger Rune in straight sets and he looked good and comfortable on the court. His movement against Rune was the best we’ve seen at Wimbledon after the surgery a month ago.
