This will be the third meeting between the two at Wimbledon. The first one was in 2018 and the second one in 2021. These two play each other every third year at Wimbledon. Alexander Zverev win both those encounters at the All England lawn tennis club. The first match went to five sets and the most recent one to four. So Fritz has never beaten Zverev at Wimbledon and Zverev is up 5-3 in the head two head. This is the fourth time Zverev has reached the round of 16 at Wimbledon. Fritz, the current world number 13, reached the quarterfinal in 2022. Both playersrely heavily on their first serve and big forehand. Zverev is the one who likes to approach the net occasionally.
The world number 4, Zverev, still hasn’t lost a set in the tournament. In the previous match against Norrie he saved a couple of set balls in the third set tiebreak that Zverev won 17-15 in the end. Zverev won the two first sets 6-4. In the second round defeated Giron (6-2, 6-1, 6-4). In the opening round he got the better of Carballes Baena (6-2, 6-4, 6-2). Taylor Fritz has lost one set so far at Wimbledon. In the round of 128 he played against O’Connell and won (6-1, 6-2, 6-4). In the second round Fritz defeated his main enemy on the tour, Rinderknech, in four sets (6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4). There is no love lost between the two of them. In the third round he defeated Tabilo in straight sets (7-6, 6-3, 7-5).
The world number 41, Putintseva, defeated the world number one in the previous Round and she is looking to keep her momentum going when she faces Ostapenko today. This is the first time ever the 29 year old Florida resident has reached the 4th round of a Grand Slam. Her highest ranking on the WTA tour was seven years ago at the 27th spot. Ostapenko is ranked at the 14th spot in the world, her highest was at number 5 back in 2018. The same year she reached the semi final at Wimbledon, which is her best result to date. She has won one Grand Slam, the French Open in 2017. The h2h between these two is 2-2. This will be their first match on grass.
Putintseva defeated Swiatek in three sets (3-6, 6-1, 6-2) in the round of 32. In the second round she got the better of Siniakova in three sets (6-0, 4-6, 6-2). In the first round she won over the veteran, Kerber, in straight sets (7-5, 6-3). Ostapenko is yet to lose a set at Wimbledon 2024. She defeated Tomljanovic easily in the round of 128 (6-1, 6-2). In the second round she won over Snigur (6-3, 6-0) and in the round of 32 she got the better of Pera (6-1, 6-3).
